How to Prepare for an Airboat Tour of the Florida Everglades

It is a common misconception that Florida and Hawaii are exempt from the seasons due to their location. Oddly, if you asked any local, they would probably agree but despite what people believe, Florida does go through the seasons, in its own unique way. Don’t let this stop you from visiting Florida out of season or from taking an airboat tour. Keep reading to learn what the four seasons look like in Florida and how to prepare for your airboat tour of the Florida Everglades.

Spring

Temperatures begin to climb in Florida in the springtime, when temperatures begin to climb to the mid to high 80s. This is when most people start wearing shorts and tank tops in Florida. It is important to note though that airboat tours are windy and therefore a bit chilly. You will want to be properly prepared for your airboat ride so make sure to wear long pants and a short-sleeved shirt. Bring a lightweight jacket just in case you need it. You can easily take off or add the jacket depending on how you feel on your tour.

Summer

Once it hits mid-May in Florida, the days become long and scorching hot. Temperatures top out around the low 90s daily. The only relief to be found from the heat is the occasional summer thunderstorm or a breeze for those lucky enough to catch one.  Shorts and tank tops are a must during the summer months in Florida in order to keep yourself cool and ventilated. The weather in Florida is highly variable so we recommend wearing comfortable sneakers to keep your feet dry. We also suggest you bring a light rain jacket for any potential rain or thunderstorms you might encounter.

Fall

Fall is an odd time in Florida. Temperatures start to dip from very hot to hot, and many find themselves with the predicament of what to wear. We suggest jeans and a well-worn or comfortable shirt with a light jacket if needed. This way, you won’t get too hot or cold during your airboat ride and will be comfortable enough to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

 Winter

Although people traditionally think of December when they think of winter. the coldest times of the year in Florida are typically during January and maybe the first week of February. Although the sun is out to keep you warm on your airboat tour, the cold winter winders will certainly give you the chills. Make sure to wear pants, long sleeve shirts, and consider adding a jacket or scarf to help keep you nice and warm during your airboat tour.

Hopefully, these tips come in handy for when you go on your airboat tour or if you find yourself outside during your vacation to Florida. It is important to understand and appreciate the local weather conditions and be prepared for them. The Everglades are some of the most beautiful areas of Florida but they must be respected as well. Book your airboat tour today and enjoy your cruise around the ‘glades.
